On Saturday, September 21st, we met at Farandnear in Shirley. It was damp but not pouring rain most of the time we were there. We started with a plant and garden tool swap. Joann Vieira, Horticultural Center of Excellence leader for The Trustees, gave us a guided tour of the Pinetum and Perennial Gardens.
There are an impressive variety of conifers on this property and an equally impressive selection of deciduous trees and perennials. Arthur Banks cataloged the conifers and you can still find some of his small brass tags on some of the trees, often next to newer green plastic tags The Trustees staff and volunteers have added.
