Garden tours of Boston’s best private and public gardens give you the chance to see hidden spaces in Beacon Hill, the South End, and Back Bay, the city’s most exclusive neighborhoods.
Hidden Gardens of Beacon Hill
Once a year on the third Thursday in May, a dozen or so Beacon Hill Garden Club members open their gardens to the public for a special Hidden Gardens of Beacon Hill self-guided tour.
When: Thursday, May 18, 9am – 5pm, rain or shine (to be confirmed)
Where: Beacon Hill; hostess booths will be at the corners of Charles and Mt. Vernon, and Charles and Chestnut Streets
Fenway Victory Gardens Tour
Through the years, the Boston residents who tend each plot have personalized their spaces within this community garden. Many double as outdoor living rooms, surrounded by flowers, foliage, vines, and trees as individual as their creators.
A series of Boston Victory Garden Tours from June through September give you a chance to explore these private worlds located almost in the shadows of Fenway Park and the Prudential Tower.
Garden Tour of Historic Charlestown
June 19, 10am-3pm
You’ll start at the Community Gardens at 499 Main Street to get a ticket and pick up your guide book before walking around on this self-guided tour to see the many special flower gardens and hidden shady oases tucked away among Charlestown’s stately brick mansions and well-preserved clapboard homes.
South End Garden Tour
The South End Garden Tour never gets boring because it features gardens in a different area of this large neighborhood every year. Each year’s tour focuses on gardens in specific areas such as Union Park and SoWa, with numerous gardens and green spaces open for this self-guided tour.
When: Saturday, June 10, 10am – 4pm, rain or shine (To be updated for this year)
Where: Begins at Berkeley Community Garden (corner of Tremont & East Berkeley)
Secret Gardens of Cambridge Tour
Not available in 2023. The June tour takes place only on alternate years – those ending with an even number, such as 2024, 2026, 2028.
Typically, the Secret Garden tour includes close to 20 private gardens, special green spaces, and historic sites all over Cambridge.
